Hospital bag 3 copy.jpg

35 weeks & I now have my real hospital bag packed! I say real because I’ve had an emergency hospital stay bag packed since 27 weeks just incase I needed to stay in hospital – which I did! Good job I had it packed haha. I now have my proper, real deal labour and after delivery bag officially packed!

It wasn’t easy getting all this packed mind. I looked through so many online ‘hospital bag checklists’ and ended up with my own little list with things off about 10 other lists. A few things I see as unnecessary others think are important or vice versa so I needed it to be for me.

Hospital Bag
I searched & searched for a nice, practical hospital bag. I finally found this one from good ol Primark for just £14! It’s a great size and with a squeeze has managed to hold all my things! It will be great for short breaks away to.

Toiletries Bag
This is a big wash bag sort of thing which I have for all my little minis and bits like that. This was from Primark to, in fact… lots of my hospital stuff was from there haha!

It doesn’t actually look like much…

Dressing gown – Of course, this is a must and on nearly every packing list I came across. Walking around a ward in just your pjs isn’t great & it can be chilly!
– Asda

Slippers – These are more sock slippers. They’re just easy to slip on and wander around in.
– Primark

Big knickers – Big, unattractive, boring knickers for after. Big knickers for the big pads that are essential for after labour lol. I got these in black just because of any leaks, 10 pairs, that has to be plenty.
– Primark

x2 Nursing Bras – I plan on breast feeding so chose these plain nursing bras, they are basic but seem like they will do the job.

Pyjamas – I got these without realising the colour. Oh blue, thats cute because I’m having a baby boy & we can match… Its going to be messy, I may leak. White and baby blue, what was I thinking!
– Primark

Night Shirt – I got a nighty as well, I may find this to be more comfortable than top and bottoms but we shall see!
– Primark

Labour top – A plain back t shirt I plan on wearing during labour.
– H&M

Maternity Pads – Obviously you need pads, unless your hospital provides them. I have heard they are really, really big & its always nice to have your own so you can choose your brand or whatever.

Yet to pack is my coming home outfit, I don’t have one yet but ill probably have it brought up when its time for home.

Breast Pads – Milk don’t really come in until after a few days but just to be on the safe side I have packed a few.

Hand Wipes – I may need these I may not.

Wash Sponge – I got this is my Project B Box last month and decided to pop it in my hospital bag as I hadn’t yet got one.

Body Wash – I can’t not have a shower or bath, I plan on having one as soon after labour as I can. I love this Dove one!

Dove deodorant – Need to be fresh! It might get sweaty haha!

Herbal Essences Shampoo & Conditioner – I don’t know if I will wash my hair while there. Depends how long I have to stay in for I guess.

Simple Face Wash –  I love this, I wouldn’t use normal shower wash on my face so need this in the bag!

Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo – Just incase I don’t wash my hair, I can use some of this and spruce it up a little and make it smell a little fresh – It smells lush!

Impulse Spray – My mum suggested I get this, not sure when or if ill use it but I don’t have perfume to take so this could be a substitute for that.

Moisturiser – I need to moisturise, I feel like I’ve forgotten something major if I don’t do this after a shower.

Mouth Wash – Fresh Breath of course!

Hair Brush – This wasn’t in my emergency hospital bag and I suffered without a hair brush, it was horrible not being able to brush my messy hair for 2 days haha!

Make up – I bunged a few little bits in a bag which I may use, I don’t want to look at photos and think ‘Ergh, I look disgusting’ regardless if I’ve just had a baby or not.

Tooth Brush & Tooth Paste- You can’t go stay away & not have a toothbrush.

Lip Balm – Dry lips in hospital, it’s the worse! I don’t know if it’s the air con/ventilating system they have or something but it causes your lips to go really dry.

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm – This is more than just nipple balm, it can be used for so many things. This came in a Project B Box to and it will definitely be used!

Hair Bands – For when I just need to wack up my hair!

I may have packed to much or not enough but I think it’s a pretty basic hospital bag lol.

If I’m forgetting something that may help me or be really useful then please let me know!

  1. Big underwear are a very good idea! I didn’t bring them and ended up with a c-section…not fun! At least the hospital had these mesh underwear which were actually very comfortable.
